McLaren Pre Purchase Inspections
Pre purchase inspections from our team at Thorney Motorsport Germany at Donau Auto Obernzell come in two stages.
Firstly - a briefing from the potential new owner is entered into our database, any particular Requests are noted , an appointment to view the car and arrangements for Ramp access are made. The world of modern sports & Super cars dictates under trays and rear Diffusers, usually must be removed to allow a full inspection to be carried out.
Stage 1
This stage works through a predefined list of examination points, checking for Fluid leaks and undue signs of wear in all areas ~ both those TUV relevant and those directly pertaining to the optimum performance of the car. Photos are taken of each step and comprise the support of a full narrative then prepared in the post inspection report for the owner.
Items wanting and worthy of note for service rectification are highlighted,Items possibly - relevant in final price negotiation such as timed out date stamped components & or Tyre age are highlighted separately.
In the event unwelcome prior accident damage or less than perfect repairs are found - this is noted as a separate chapter for the report.
This first stage includes the understanding of data via the OBD Port and the transcribing of any shown codes, past and present and this is where historical over Reving can be seen.
Where the fault history via the interface of the ECU can be read ~ original McLaren Woking build sheets of the vehicle and careful appraisal of items added during the car’s life to date, are verified during the first stage process. Items such as After Market PPF and wheel refurbishment are painstakingly checked and reported.
A vehicle can be the subject of examination for between half and a full day. Road tests are not a given at this stage, as all too often, work scheduled in the pre~ purchase service indicates any road test as sub~ optimal.
Suffice to say all functions of the car including roof operation, fit and finish - infotainment, AC & heating are checked during this phase of the Inspection, so that a comprehensive and full narrative can be shared with a prospective buyer.
Stage 2
Unique - to Thorney Motorsport Germany in Obernzell, and soon to be in Passau also our Pre-Purchase inspection step two is carried out, this is termed the Post service inspection.
This comprises careful examination of all items picked up in step one, this phase includes both a road test of 100 kms in wet and dry conditions.
Wheel alignment is checked and re Calibrated to optimize as per a customer’s request. Wheels and Tyres are Dynamically balanced using state of the art Hunter balancing equipment which is able to check wheels both in the lateral and vertical axis.
Headlamp alignment is painstakingly checked & the car fully Valeted to include Glass treatment and wiper adjustment.
All in all, checks exceed 150 points of detail.
Items found wanting can by agreement with the new owner be the subject of discussion with the seller & arrangements for future service works made.
